The Kinark Foundation raises funds in support of programs offered by Kinark Child and Family Services and other charitable organizations focusing on children's mental health in Ontario. We are the only public foundation exclusively dedicated to supporting solutions to the problems facing children and youth with mental health disorders and their families.
The Challenge: Mental health problems can affect any child, at any age, and are the result of biological, genetic, and environmental factors. Children who have experienced abuse, neglect, chronic stress or early loss are at higher risk for mental health problems.
The Solution: Services that address the mental health needs of children and youth and their families - ranging from prevention to early intervention to treatment - have been proven to work, leading to significant improvements in school performance, social development, behaviour and self-esteem.
The Challenge: Stigma and discrimination associated with mental health problems often prevent families from reaching out for support.
The Solution: Creating awareness and understanding of mental health issues leads to empathy and reduces stigma, paving the way for more help for children and families who need it.
The Challenge: Waiting for children, families and communities to be in crisis, instead of providing mental health supports when problems first arise, leads to undue suffering.
The Solution: The Kinark Foundation offers hope today by funding prevention, education, respite and treatment programs that strengthen community capacity to respond to the mental health needs of children and youth and their families.
